Application Procedure for Overseas Students

Overseas students will surely find this graduate program on par with any other program of its kind in the West in terms of the quality of faculty and  research-level content of the courses. The Bhaktivedanta Institute's collaborator BITS, Pilani, is one of  India’s top technical universities and its degrees are internationally recognised. Past graduates from our M.S. program have gone on to join doctoral programs and do research at distinguished institutions including Harvard University, University of Leeds, U.K. and Ultrecht University, Netherlands. 

Our program has regular visiting faculty from distinguished institutions around the world. In the Fall of 2004,  Dr. Arnaud Delorme from University of California, San Diego taught a course on neuroscience and consciousness, as well as guided research projects in neurofeedback. In the Fall of 2005, Dr. Peter Matlock from the Institute of Mathematic Sciences (Chennai, India) and the Simon Fraser University (Canada) gave a series of lectures on noncommutative algebra and quantum field theory. 

To apply for this program, overseas students should submit  the following material in English:

1. A detailed CV giving:

        i. Name, gender, age, address  

ii. Full history of educational qualifications since high school, indicating each university/college attended, the degree(s) obtained, the duration of time spent on the degree, whether it was full time/part time, a list of subjects studied, projects or dissertation done (title and brief description)

iii. Details of Professional work experience such as the name of the company/organization position held, number of years held and job responsibilities.
 

2. Please enclose copies of all transcript(s) from the university/college(s) attended as well as the diploma(s).

3. Attach a 1-2 page statement of interest, which explains why the applicant is interested in pursuing this degree program in "consciousness studies".

4. Two letters of reference

5. Complete and submit the BITS application form which can be downloaded (click here).           

6. Applicants whose native language is not English should submit scores from the TOEFL exam.

7. Applicants should submit scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) General Test (http://www.gre.org/)

8. An application processing fee of US$25.

These items should be received by April 15, 2008 for students desiring to enter the program in September 2008. It is recommended that the applicant begin corresponding with the Overseas Admissions Committee as much as one year in advance by sending a CV and transcripts by e-mail for preliminary evaluation. Please allow two weeks for review of the above information. Owing to the diversity of educational programs throughout the world, the Admissions Committee may require further information or have additional requirements. If the applicant meets the admission requirements, the Admission's Officer will conduct a telephone interview with the applicant.  Applicants can assume that BITS will accept the application and that BITS will issue a formal letter of acceptance in no more than 2 months.  With this letter of acceptance, the applicant will be able to obtain a student visa from an Indian consulate. As early as possible, applicants should contact the nearest Indian consulate for full details regarding student visas.
